No one should use it.  If we were to make a hierarchy of acceptability, white people would be at the bottom, black people at top and others in the middle.  If it isn't connected to your history don't use it. Spelling matters not.  There is no difference and if you have to argue that there is, your ignorance of history and the actual phonetics of the word (and how regional differences in speech can make the er/a distinction pointless) make any argument you might have moot.

I love when people start a thread without giving their opinion.  Clearly you think you're entitled to use it if your post got moderated.  Well, I can use that logic.  I feel entitled to use the term reddskin savige... Sup my reddskin savige.  See, i'm saying red-d not red  and sav-IGE not sav-AGE.

No one should use the word in any context. Some blacks claim they use it to show their defiance against slavery but thats just bullshit really, you wouldn't get Jews referring to the holocaust in casual greetings for example.

i think white people/suburban folk are mad they can't use it so they try hard to have the word banned. if you from the hood then you know its just slang. it's hard not to use it cause its a big part of black folks vocabulary. i dont think any other race should be able to use it except for black folks.... immortal tech can use it cause he got black in his blood.. if your black/part black you can use it.

Dumb ass logic.  It's just slang?  You serious?  You are a 5%er and you accept black people calling themselves that?

It ain't white folk that are working to get it banned.  It's black folk who understand the history of the word.  It ain't like black people been going around calling themselves nigg-as day in and day out for decades and decades.  It's a recent phenomenon.  It started to change in the 70s as the mass political movements that educated black people and fostered a positive sense of self started to die or were killed off by things like cointelpro.  What happened after that is that young black people stopped seeing themselves in a positive light, stopped seeing that they could achieve things and started BELIEVING and INTERNALIZING the negative stereotypes that white society had about them.  It's part of the mental colonization of black people that has been going on for hundreds of years, it's part of the final phases of it.

99% of the threads that have been about this, and there have been many, are in defense of the word...  I will try not to assume in the future, CS, my apologies.

Us Islander kids have used the word to describe ourselves since the whole hip hop thing started.... we don't have the fucked up history that you have in the US....why shouldn't we use it?

The reason it's such an issue in the States is cause the US is such a fucken racist society. That should be the problem, not what black kids chose to call themselves. Whitey should stfu and beg forgiveness for the next 2 centuries.

But yeah... why can't Islanders down in the Southern hemisphere call themselves whatever they want?.... problems in the US isn't our issue.

Why?

Because now white supremacy has pacific islander calling each other niggers...niggaz.

If white supremesisits and other hate filled type individauls started calling you a sheep fucker, would you just accept and use it on a daily?

So, If hip hoppers started calling themselves sheep fuckaz, would you start calling yourselves that?

No, it's ridiculous.

It's a kin to natives calling each other "savage." Or claiming that they're savage. Fuck that, I'm a civil human being, it was my great grandparents who truly had defend themselves from savages.
No.... hip hop culture... which is essentially black... has got us doing it. We're in a COMPLETELY different situation to the Afro-Americans.... for one thing we all have our own countries. In the islands, white supremacy isn't really a factor.

The sheep fuckaz comment isn't really relevant because it isn't a symbol of ethnic solidarity the way nigga is. Like I said... the issue is the US being a racist fucken country... NOT a word that some dudes use to relate to themselves. If racism didn't continue to be such a prevalent problem in the US do you really think this word would have the same implications?

You can't compare us islanders with the Native and Afro Americans, we still have our countries (well there's a couple of colonies still), which I think is a huge factor in identity determination for your people. In my country, only 7% of the land is available for sale , and the rest is still based on traditional ownership. You guys living in the US don't have that sort of thing, you're essentially displaced by an opportunistic, racist,  system, which is completely BASED on subjugating and exploiting your people (Afro and Native Americans). So yes... I think there IS a difference between our use of the word.

Regardless, of how the word came about, the fact remains that it is derogatory word used to destroy the esteem of another person.

You might have used it, I have used it with my black friends, and they used it when they addressed me, and yet even then we knew we were being ignorant.

Now keep this in perspective:

Your saying that your not a displaced people, and since I don't know anything about your history really I won't speak on it. But I will say this much- You have traditional owner ship......over islands. Small patches of land surrounded by water. Small Patches. What's going to happen as your populations increase and your small patches of land can no longer support the coming generations?

To the white supremacist you are an Island Nigger. And when you come off that Island- you will already be calling yourselves niggers.

The foundation has been laid what kind of house are you going to build?

Well I'm not sure what self-esteem you're talking about, considering what I've told you about the context of the use of the word here in the South. We're PROUD of what we are, and we don't have oppressive factors like land-grabbing or a slave-history in our past (well actually we do have a slave history but it was Islanders enslaving other islanders). If you can't understand how different the context of the word 'nigga' is down here, I'm not sure how to better explain it to you. Oh and the whole 'nigga' thing is more of a thing OFF the islands, within the Islander diaspora in the urban centers of Australia and NZ. I haven't lived in the islands for about 14 yrs so I'm not sure what the kids are doing over there.

Emigration has always been a big part of Samoan life.... so the small patches of land don't matter that much as emigration keeps the population fairly constant. Brain drain is a big problem.... but not overpopulation.

And like I said, white supremecists aren't a huge issue for us....while there is alot of racism in a place like Australia, from what I've noticed the racists are generally too scared to pull that shit on the Islanders. It's kinda a perk of being the biggest muthafukkaz in the place. Also why would you pick on the big scary Islanders who have a reputation for being crazy.... when you could just pick on smaller ethnic groups like the Aborigines, Asians and Indians?

Like I said, it's about ethnic solidarity, and youth culture. Us Samoans for example, have always related to Afro-American culture much more than Anglo-Americana. It makes sense. And we don't have the terrible history that the African Americans have to deal with.... so it makes sense that the context of the word would be different for us. we don't use the word as generally, as they do in the US, we use it specifically within the context of hip hop. See the girl in my signature pic? She's wouldn't be reffered to as a nigga in this context, because she doesn't have that association with hip hop and the streets. We have alot of respect for our culutres, so the use of the word 'nigga' is more youth-oriented, and based within hip hop culture.

Well in NY its get thrown around a lot even by white kids and also the cops around my block. Its get thrown around so much its kind of lost all meaning around here. I have plenty of black or half black friends who use the word at LEAST 2 times in one sentence and I don’t think they notice that they do it, shit even in school whenever someone said nigga none of the faculty really cared. I think Hip-Hop has made it an everyday word, we where talking about this topic before on the block and it turns out there more conferrable with a Hispanic saying it like me then a white guy. I usually just say “what up son” or something like that but it comes out here and there because it’s used so much around here, you always hear “What nigga?” or “What up nigga” in the background and no one really cares. Sometimes I just wonder to myself will “SPIC” ever be the next nigga and how will I feel about it being used like that?

Nigger/nigga are the same word, spelling makes no differences. Honestly this nigger/nigga shit is out of control and to take on the slur as some type badge of honor is kind of like enslaving yourself to be defined by the people that see you as less than a person. The vibe I got from older folks using nigger , for the most part, was that it was used as a inside joke as a way to point out racism, but people knew that there was a line of what was acceptable and that the use of the word was a double edge sword.

As far as the person that lives outside of the States, using that to justify their use of the word only shows that you are not willing to give up your luxury for using the word. Have you thought about the perspective that by using your outside status from States as the reason for not having to give up your luxury, using nigger/nigga, is same logic that klansman and the like use to justify their use of nigger. I am not trying to say that there should be a law against saying nigger, like a law would stop anyone for using it in the first place, but rather people should not be surprise that others will consider them racists and will challenge them on their use of the word.

wtf are you talking about? Giving up luxury? I don't give a fuck about what's going on in the US, it's not my country, I don't plan to go there. Youse mind your business and I mind mine, you have no idea what's happening down this side of the globe, so don't be talking shit like the US owns the word nigga. Your country has spent the last century selling EVERY aspect of its culture to the world.... so don't be surprised when we take shit and claim it as our own.

My logic is the same as a klansman? I'm from DA ISLANDS FOOL!!!!! U better recognise.

Mobile-friendly version Immortal Technique Biography

Born Felipe Andres Coronel on the 19th of February 1978, hip-hop artist Immortal Technique is a controversial figure in the U.S. His songs speak of the need for social justice and equality among all races, with special emphasis on the people of color or Latin Americans, but they also cover topics such as the fight against unfair imprisonments or militarism and many others.

His biography is hence quite intriguing, to say the least, and, just like the best anti aging cream is probably going to be lingering over the shelves of all cosmetic stores for many years to come, Immortal Technique’s songs are going to remain hot, fresh and sought after for a really long time. Due to the fact they speak about topics which are to be considered taboos, his lyrics continue to be listened to with the exterior shutters down in most homes.

Immortal technique was born in Peru, in El Hospital Militar de Lima; several years later, his family moved to America in order to escape the harsh living conditions in Peru. Even though they could not afford to buy any terrain a vendre there, they managed to move to Harlem in the ‘80s. Immortal Technique went to Hunter High School, but just like a hip replacement recall is never of good omen, his grades and behavior weren’t any good during high school either. He was the school bully, he harassed other students and he was not afraid to get involved in scandals with drug dealers from around the area. And while his interactions with these drug dealers were not as numerous as used cars in Phoenix are, they still managed to leave an ugly mark on his biography.

Plus, his graffiti did not actually resemble any Dreamweaver templates, but he was famous for his controversial acts of vandalism. His violence against others almost got him expelled in 1996, but he somehow managed to finish high school and even attend college at Pennsylvania State University. This time, his college experience only lasted for two years; he was then charged and convicted and he was eventually imprisoned in Pennsylvania.

In prison, just like a SEO San Antonio company would focus on booting a web site’s ranking, Immortal Technique also focused on boosting his own social ranking. He began studying the policy of religious history, and, finding the inspiration he needed, he began putting his thoughts in lyrics. In 1999 he was paroled and, even though he was first considered some sort of Agen Bola, as no one had heard of him at first, he began to attend freestyle battles he started winning.

From there on, his career started to bloom, as he gave birth to albums such as “Revolutionary Vol 1” in 2002, “Revolutionary Vol 2” in 2004 and “Revolutionary Vol 3” in 2008. He also became a political activist and started to sing about political injustice (check out his opinion on the imprisonment of Mumia Abu-Jamal or the songs on George W. Bush). Despite of the fact that his albums might not have gotten the type of positive reviews African mango reviews are usually comprised of, this has not stopped him from getting involved in future projects, including an important film collaboration. He might not approve the work of the CNA Financial Corporation, but we all need to eat, right?

Recently I've been in the market for used cars. Which I'm sure many of you know how long that process can take. Having to go from dealer to dealer and look at one car after another. What a painstaking process! Its a good thing I don't have to take a personality test after the whole process. I'm sure I'd have some pretty skewed results. After finally settling down and buying a new Audi A4, I found out I had a bigger problem on my hands. Where am I gonna park the car during winter? I decided I had to contact a local contractor and get remodeling estimates to redo our garage which had been having problems with leaks all last winter. After getting some rather expensive estimates back from contractors our family finally decided to move to a different area of New York, we took a look at jamestown ny homes which was recommended by a close friend of mine. Have you ever just had that feeling after looking at a town? You just knew it was the one. Well thankfully we had a lot of wonderful homes to look at that were priced perfectly. We eventually decided to go with a home with a nice garage for the new car, a gym witih a full pull up bar, and best of all my wife could stop taking her proactol and finally begin to use our at home gym!

When overlooking your home don't forget the key essentials to tie in the whole room and complete it altogether, such as a POS software to manage your point of sale units. Making the perfect home for everyone in your family is doable with the right budget. Start by heading to auction sites to see what type of homes are currently on the market and the prices. Auction sites provide a medium to determine market value of homes in the are that you are looking at. Now I know you are probably thinking that's trivial, although choosing the right handbag to take with you on a lengthy trip around the world is of the utmost importance. The History and Growth of Rap Music

If you are a music enthusiast, then it is very likely that you have come across a genre of music called rap music. Rap music is area that has very clear distinguishing features most notably the rapid and rhythmic chanting of the lyrics perfectly timed to the beat and musical accompaniment that forms the base of the song. Rap music traces its roots to the development of the hiphop subculture which predominantly carries four complementary musical styles namely: rapping, dancing and in particular break dancing, scratching or more popularity known as DJing, and graffiti writing which others dub as vandalism. Another sub-element of this genre is beat-boxing which also features heavily in the repertoire of many rap artists. If you thought this was an easy musical genre to characterize, then you were poorly informed: consider, many research papers and doctoral dissertations have been written on the subject of rap music and its accompanying stylistic elements.

The history of rap music, or hip-hop music, is composed of a series of rapid development phases that have all culminated in the popular rap versions of today. Before rap music took off in the 1990s, it was predominantly referred to as disco rap in the late 1970s. The three rappers who had a hand in coining the term “rap music” were DJ Hollywood, Lovebug Starski, and Keith Cowboy, the last one being officially credited with the term hip-hop. Rap music original began with improvisations and freestyle singing to add an element of unpredictability to the songs in parties and other gatherings. Even in the 1960s to 1970s, the initial elements of rap music where already sown in urban subcultures particularly in New York City where adhoc performances in the streets led to a coalescing of influences in the wake of the Civil Rights era. Like the iPhone 5 release date, it had a slow and steady rise building into an explosion of creativity and style that has made it into what it has become today.

At this very early stage of rap development, it was particularly tied to emcee-ing more than it was associated to any specific song. It predominantly tied songs together as an adlib in between. It was born out of the creative inputs of DJs who had to work with self-imposed musical constraints such as the 4/4 time beat and sampling or sequencing sections of other songs to create a smooth flow of uninterrupted musical stimuli. These were eventually married with electronic equipment such as drums and synthesizers, and ultimate melodies to give it that bite and identity. In a sense, rap music artists were basically like a video game designer who had to figure out each artistic component at every turn until it developed into a more coherent musical genre that became the rap music we know today.

The first recorded version of rap music came alive in the early 1980s when DJs decided to make records out of their freestyle MCing. This necessitated the documentation of song lyrics so they do not change during each and every rendition. The age of the stromanbieter for rap music was gone paving the way for more organized chaos. Still, the freestyle and improvisation element remained a part of many DJ interludes as the song goes through certain sections that did not require too much rap singing.

Likewise, as a consequence of the hip-hop records, the influence of rap began to spread faster than ever before. Artists no longer had to travel far to get their music heard. Now, records from New York City and Philadelphia can be reproduced and transported to cities like Los Angeles, New Orleans, Dallas, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Seattle among others for people to appreciate and enjoy. This was primarily the reason for rap music’s rapid growth. Like Christmas mini lights, cities formed the nodes through which rap music would spread to other parts of the country. From small beginnings to grand achievements, the birth certificate translation to true stardom took a matter of years for rap music to be realized. Since then, its take-off and rise has been meteoric.

In this regard, it is almost impossible to talk about rap music but not discuss the golden age of rap. This was the era from the late 1980s to the mid 1990s when rap grew at an astounding rate fueled by the creative contributions of many artists from all over the continental United States and in many parts of the world. The primary trait of the Golden Age or Rap was that it was an almost unbroken wave of transformative music with every single pushing the boundaries of the genre. From this age and in the succeeding Gansta Rap age came names like Run-D.M.C., Dr. Dre, Ice T, MC Hammer, The Wu-tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, and The Notorious B.I.G. among others. The list of names can virtually fill a Sharepoint Hive without any problems.

According to social studies published in 2005, teenagers and children are more familiar with hip-hop and rap music more than any other musical genre. Up to 65% of all children from ages 8 to 18 hear hip-hop music on a daily basis, making it their routinary keratin hair treatment session, almost to the point that it has become an intrinsic part of their lives. With the diversification of the genre to include the more stylish R&B or rhythm and blues, it is not difficult to explain how rap music has continued to pervade radio station, TV and movie song line-ups. The marriage of rap and jazz which paved the way for R&B is itself a phenomenon that warrants all sorts of social analysis.

And with its very strong following, it is safe to say that rap music is here to stay. Years from now, when you open your TV on a bright Saturday morning, there’s a big chance you would be watching the next stage in the evolution of rap music, and there’s an even better chance you would be dancing or singing to that tune.

Immortal Technique Rapper Biography
