MI5: Al-Qa'eda recruiting UK children for terror
By Philip Johnston, Home Affairs Editor
Last Updated: 4:58pm GMT 05/11/2007

Osama bin Laden's al-Qa'eda terror group is recruiting British children as young as 15 to wage a campaign of carnage against their own country, the new head of MI5 has said.

Gimson Unbound: Talking terror
Read: Jonathan Evans's speech in full
In his first public speech since taking over the security service in the summer, Jonathan Evans said Islamists were "radicalising, indoctrinating and grooming young, vulnerable people to carry out acts of terrorism".

Mr Evans said the threat has yet to reach its peak

Mr Evans said the threat posed by al-Qa'eda had yet to reach its peak despite one successful bomb attack and several thwarted atrocities.

He also revealed in a speech in Manchester that al-Qa'eda was using the chaos in Iraq as cover for its overseas forays.

While Pakistan remained the base for the "core" leadership which controls its activities, "there is no doubt now that al-Qa'eda in Iraq aspires to promote terrorist attacks outside Iraq," he said.

Mr Evans added: "There is no doubt there is training activity and terrorist planning in East Africa - particularly in Somalia - which is focused on the UK.

"And there is no doubt that the extension of what one might call the 'al-Qa'eda franchise' to other groups in other countries - notably in Algeria - has created a significant upsurge in terrorist violence in these countries."

His warnings will fuel the growing political row over the length of time terror suspects should be detained without charge.

advertisementA new terrorism Bill to be announced in the Queen's Speech will propose increasing the time limit from 28 days to as much as 56 days.

Although Mr Evans steered clear of taking sides in any political controversy he outlined the scale of the threat on which ministers will rely to make their case for tougher laws..

"MI5 has now identified around 2,000 individuals who we believe pose a direct threat to national security and public safety because of their support for international terrorism," he said.

"This increase from 1600 in November 2006 is due both to improved coverage of extremist communities and to the continued flow of new recruits to the extremist cause."

He added: "Extremists are methodically and intentionally targeting young people and children in the UK.

"This year, MI5 has seen individuals as young as 15 and 16 implicated in terrorist-related activity.

"The UK needs to protect its children from exploitation by violent extremists."

Mr Evans said the battle of ideologies would be a long one because the extremists worked in historical timescales.

"If the UK only reacts tactically while its enemies plan strategically, then we will struggle to meet this challenge," he said.

"The struggle against violent extremism relies not only on good intelligence and law enforcement, but also on the determination and perseverance of us all to resist extremism and to protect a decent, tolerant and open society."

Mr Evans said the successful and attempted attacks in Britain had not been random plots by disparate groups but co-ordinated and deliberate actions ordered by al-Qa'eda's leadership.

"The majority of these attacks, successful or otherwise, have taken place because al-Qa'eda has a clear determination to mount terrorist attacks against the United Kingdom," he said.

"This remains the case today, and there is no sign of it reducing. So although MI5 and the police are investigating plots, and thwarting them, on a continuing basis, we do not view them in isolation.

"Al-Qa'eda is conducting a deliberate campaign against us. It is the expression of a hostility towards the UK which existed long before September 11 2001.

"It is evident in the wills and letters left behind by actual and would-be bombers."

Ministers say one reason why longer detention is needed to question suspects is the growing complexity of the conspiracies now being uncovered.

Mr Evans said: "We now see different levels of sophistication. Yes, we have seen unsophisticated attempts to kill and injure, but we have also seen complex, logistically effective plots, which require a high degree of expertise and accurate targeting.

"We have to pay equal attention to both the crude and the complex. Because the primitive can be just as deadly as the sophisticated."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The old head of Mi5 intelligence knows that al-Qaeda is not a terrror group. Evans has used al-Qaeda here as a buzzword for islamist extremism, of which there are multiple groups and ideological stances and newtorks of networks. al-Qaeda does not have a leadership, this has long been exposed as a myth and the last time I checked Mi5s' website, they didn't convey al-Qaeda as an organization or group with a leadership. To portray al-Qaeda like this is - as a group with a leadership - is simply for prosecution and direction of responsibilty purposes.

Taking out al-Qaeda's 'leadership' i.e bin-Laden and his closer associates will not make al-Qaeda or islamist extremism go away. I think it will experience a loss in finance at worst. Whats more is that al-Qaeda does not rely on brainwashing to recruit members, many muslim extremists set out to become a part of the al-Qaeda network.

Once these realities are faced, we can focus on the real threat of islamist extremism, which is not represented by organizations lead by henchmen but political radicalness guided by religion. Much of al-Qaeda terror attacks are very much political as they are terrorist. 7/7 came as a response to the Iraq invasion.
The al-Qaeda ideology and other islamic extremists ideologies gets stronger everytime the west inteferes with middle-eastern affairs and I fear that an invasion of Iran will produce even worse reactions by the muslim world than we have seen so far. The irony of the 'War on Terror' so far, is that it has infact created terrorists. Urban cities in Iraq for example, a scapegoat for the war on terror, have been turned into warzones, making for real life terrorist training camps. CIA reports confirm that such cities have become a magnet for terrorists.

I heard British neighbourhoods are pretty racist, no wonder why brown kids will get pretty angry over time and resort to violence if goaded by religious leaders.

IMO, it's not ironic, it is by design.   Perpetual War mean perpetual money creation and profits along with a pass to enter other countries and place the flag of the imperialist over that of the local people.

Yeah I actually agree with RMX. It is too obvious that the "War on terror" will not truly fight terrorism. But there's more aspects to it. The "War on terror" card itseld also helps winning elections

Yeah, even US intelligence back in the day was saying that the war on terror would probably just create more terror.

...and they went ahead and did it anyways!!  All this isn't all one big mistake, nor is it "lack of imagination"....design I say, design.  But there is one thing that they can not completely account for even though they are fully aware of it....

The short answer is...Choice.   We have the ability to choose and even though the design (Matrix) takes that into consideration, it is impossible to account for all of the possbile, infinite, pool of choices we have.  Hence the potential threat to the design (Matrix) by our choice or rather by what we ultimately choose.   Even though most people are firmly planted (programmed) within the construction of the Matrix, a small handful of people remain which can potentially cause the machine to fail.   In fact, it has always been a small handful, which often, but not always, snowballs to bring down the machine.

The movie is one long, ancient, allegory which addresses many issues found in this human experience we call life.  Here is something many of you may not know about this great film series.

http://www.playahata.com/pages/interviews/interview_sophiastewartpt1.htm
By the author of the manuscript from which the Matrix was based on....

Ok, The Terminator and The Matrix are actually “one book”. That’s my "Third Eye" manuscript. It’s nine chapters but it's all from the same source (no pun intended) Terminator starts from the front of my book to the back. Matrix starts from the back of my book and works its way to the front. They are moving in two opposite directions. My book was separated into two. "The Third Eye" is an epic, my book spans three time frames the past, the present and the future. Those films do the same thing. The child in the first Terminator who is born to the pregnant lady (Sarrah Connor) grows up to be the same as the grown man character in the Matrix called Neo, it’s that chosen one, savior concept. Matrix starts in the future, when technology has taken over. The Terminator was sent to kill the child who was prophesized to destroy the machines. That intersects directly with Neo as being the one prophesized to bring the machine reign to an end. One critic who is unaware of my lawsuit called the movies cousins but they are actually one in the same in the original.

Ok, I guess I had a vague idea of where it was coming from... the old dude kinda confused me tho.... did that sophia lady try to sue them for stealing her story?

The choice thing is an interesting thing to ponder..... I guess the whole idea of individual agency is kinda trippy..... I'm not sure how much I believe in it, there's so many variables, and we're locked pretty tight into the bullshit, and culture etc...

the matrix is a very cool concept tho

The book looks kinda interesting.... not really into fiction... but I might check it out when I get through all the crap I'm already reading.

She filed suit but her case was dismissed...   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophia_Stewart#Litigation

I believe the sista has since re-filed as she claims she was misrepresented by her attorneys.  (I am not sure about all this but it don't really matter)  Nearly all accounts suggests that the Wach. Bros jacked her story, and I don't doubt it.  When I first saw that movie, the storyline was all too familiar, too dang familiar.   That same story can be found on the walls of the Egyptian temples dating back approx. 6000 yrs ago and I know this is where the sista got the basic storyline for her manuscript.

Horus, actually Heru is Neo, Set is the Matrix and its designers, Thoth, actually Tehuti is the oracle etc....
While it may appear to be fictious, the ancient stories are used in an allegorical manner, to explain key issues in spiritual development, truly empowering and revealing spiritual development, I know, I work on and with it everyday, we all do whether conscious or not;   these are matters that occur to this day within and outside of us.   It really gets deeps but oh so relevant, atleast to me it is and many others as well.

Here is a kemetic (ancient egyptian) breakdown of  NEO (the ONE) archetype:

http://www.theafrican.com/Magazine/Cosmo.htm
Man's Will. Sphere 6 of the Tree represents that aspect of Spirit from which Man's Will is exercised (by CHOICE--NOT compulsion.) It is in the exercise of Free Will that the divine aspect of Man finds expression. It is important though to point out that Man's Will is distinct from God's Will, which finds expression out of Sphere 2. For Man to bring her Will into alignment with God's will, therefore, it is necessary for Man to consult or otherwise be guided by, the Sage, or the Oracular faculty represented by Sphere 2. The deity represented by Sphere 6 was known to the Kamau as Heru, often symbolized by the hawk wearing the crown of upper and lower Egypt. No doubt the word "hero" derives from the Kamitic name for this deity, and came into the English language via the Greeks. It is cognate also to the Greek word helios for the sun, as well as Horus, the word by which Heru was known to the Greeks. Horus in turn is cognate to "horizon" for the image of Heru is of the sun on the horizon, poised between heaven and the earth. Likewise, in the Tree of Life, Sphere 6 is at its geometric center, poised between the divine faculties already discussed, up above, and the more mundane faculties now to follow, down below. Heru is key to the Ausarian resurrection metaphor, wherein he is seen as the son, the hero figure, who reclaims his father's throne which has been usurped by Ausar's evil brother Set. Heru re-establishes the kingdom of God both within and without, by aligning his will, Man's free will, with God's will. In the Yoruba pantheon, Shango is the deity which exemplifies the energies represented by Sphere 6 of the Tree.

Quote

I agree but we still have choice.   We are constantly in a state of choosing, it is ongoing and every choice has an unlimited numbers of subsequent consequences so we must choose wisely and/or use tools to obtain wise counsel i.e., the oracle.

The rabbit whole runs deeps...deep!!

http://www.theafrican.com/Magazine/Cosmo.htm
Omniscience/Divine Will. Sphere 2 on the Tree of Life represents the attribute of omniscience. The deity represented by Sphere 2 of the Tree is called Tehuti, sometimes Djehuti, in the Kamitic tradition. As already mentioned, Tehuti was known to the Greeks as Thoth. It is this faculty of all-knowing that forms the basis for all divination, which is a method by which Man may communicate with the deity of the second Sphere -- the Oracle, or the deity through which Ausar speaks. The deity of Sphere 2 may speak to Man through any variety of vehicles, for example, through the toss of coins, as with the I Ching, the drawing of stalks, the toss of bones, the reading of tea leaves, the toss of cowrie shells, and the drawing of cards from a deck. Ra Un Nefer Amen has reclaimed for us the Great Oracle of Tehuti, who speaks, so to say, through cards similar to the Tarot. In the Yoruba pantheon, Orunmila is the deity responsible for all divination (Ifa is related, and is the name given to the system of divination used by the babalawos of the Yoruba, as well as the traditional religion practiced by the Yoruba.) It is through Sphere 2 that the will of God may be made known. In addition to divination systems, the omniscience faculty of the Creator may be made manifest through living sages and adepts who have been able through spiritual cultivation or through Divine assistance, to establish their Consciousness at the part of Spirit represented by Sphere 2 on the Tree.

Wow... ok I get where you're coming from. It's slightly heavy isn't it? I guess also in the modern world, with this advertising culture of despair you've just got so many people moving further and further away from this, as they lose themselves in materialism and technophillia. I might have to check this shit out, I'm interested in alot of the ancient wisdom, just have never gotten around to reading any of the old texts.

I guess also, as a product of our modern world, I cynically question the potential power of ONE person's choices..... but I guess that's the whole point.... my cynicism would then, in part, form the basis for any choices I might make.... so hence is not empowering, but rather limiting... and possibly dangerous.

It's infinitely complex and simple simultaneously. Huh

Set--

Yeah this material is somewhat heavy especially since it has become so obscured and distorted by the fearful, power hungry, racists.  However, after many years of study and practice, I can honestly say that the links I provided above are the most concise and comphrehensive analysis of the ancient system of spiritual cultivation on the internetS (lol) thus far.  There are plenty of other sources and approaches but IMO this source is on point no doubt.

I recommend it for several reasons, one being is that it is free, two it is thorough and  thrid it is readily accessible.  Read this       http://www.theafrican.com/Magazine/sci+rel.htmand work your way thru it, utulizing the links provided.  I can assure you that if you begin to absorb that wealth of knowledge contained therein, your perspective will begin to change and undoubtedly add balance to our overwhelmingly imbalanced lives and so-called cultures especially in this critical area of our lives.  Everything is really essentially one..that is true on every level and in so many ways.

Also if you wanna get a better understanding of why I push the ancient methods please see my Black Athena Audio Debate posted yesterday,   http://www.immortal-technique.com/forum/index.php/topic,6097.0.html
IMO, it's a benefit to all concerned regardless of color unless of course color trumps justice which sadly, for many it does.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them or PM me.

Here is an additonal resource which I have to recommend because of it's thorough approach to the same matter and it is also cited heavily by Grisso, the author of the previously cited links because of it's credibility.

Add:  Please read thru the excerpts available thru the link below, that alone should give you a good indication of how and why this material is so empowering in every sense of the word.

Mobile-friendly version Immortal Technique Biography

Born Felipe Andres Coronel on the 19th of February 1978, hip-hop artist Immortal Technique is a controversial figure in the U.S. His songs speak of the need for social justice and equality among all races, with special emphasis on the people of color or Latin Americans, but they also cover topics such as the fight against unfair imprisonments or militarism and many others.

His biography is hence quite intriguing, to say the least, and, just like the best anti aging cream is probably going to be lingering over the shelves of all cosmetic stores for many years to come, Immortal Technique’s songs are going to remain hot, fresh and sought after for a really long time. Due to the fact they speak about topics which are to be considered taboos, his lyrics continue to be listened to with the exterior shutters down in most homes.

Immortal technique was born in Peru, in El Hospital Militar de Lima; several years later, his family moved to America in order to escape the harsh living conditions in Peru. Even though they could not afford to buy any terrain a vendre there, they managed to move to Harlem in the ‘80s. Immortal Technique went to Hunter High School, but just like a hip replacement recall is never of good omen, his grades and behavior weren’t any good during high school either. He was the school bully, he harassed other students and he was not afraid to get involved in scandals with drug dealers from around the area. And while his interactions with these drug dealers were not as numerous as used cars in Phoenix are, they still managed to leave an ugly mark on his biography.

Plus, his graffiti did not actually resemble any Dreamweaver templates, but he was famous for his controversial acts of vandalism. His violence against others almost got him expelled in 1996, but he somehow managed to finish high school and even attend college at Pennsylvania State University. This time, his college experience only lasted for two years; he was then charged and convicted and he was eventually imprisoned in Pennsylvania.

In prison, just like a SEO San Antonio company would focus on booting a web site’s ranking, Immortal Technique also focused on boosting his own social ranking. He began studying the policy of religious history, and, finding the inspiration he needed, he began putting his thoughts in lyrics. In 1999 he was paroled and, even though he was first considered some sort of Agen Bola, as no one had heard of him at first, he began to attend freestyle battles he started winning.

From there on, his career started to bloom, as he gave birth to albums such as “Revolutionary Vol 1” in 2002, “Revolutionary Vol 2” in 2004 and “Revolutionary Vol 3” in 2008. He also became a political activist and started to sing about political injustice (check out his opinion on the imprisonment of Mumia Abu-Jamal or the songs on George W. Bush). Despite of the fact that his albums might not have gotten the type of positive reviews African mango reviews are usually comprised of, this has not stopped him from getting involved in future projects, including an important film collaboration. He might not approve the work of the CNA Financial Corporation, but we all need to eat, right?

Recently I've been in the market for used cars. Which I'm sure many of you know how long that process can take. Having to go from dealer to dealer and look at one car after another. What a painstaking process! Its a good thing I don't have to take a personality test after the whole process. I'm sure I'd have some pretty skewed results. After finally settling down and buying a new Audi A4, I found out I had a bigger problem on my hands. Where am I gonna park the car during winter? I decided I had to contact a local contractor and get remodeling estimates to redo our garage which had been having problems with leaks all last winter. After getting some rather expensive estimates back from contractors our family finally decided to move to a different area of New York, we took a look at jamestown ny homes which was recommended by a close friend of mine. Have you ever just had that feeling after looking at a town? You just knew it was the one. Well thankfully we had a lot of wonderful homes to look at that were priced perfectly. We eventually decided to go with a home with a nice garage for the new car, a gym witih a full pull up bar, and best of all my wife could stop taking her proactol and finally begin to use our at home gym!

The History and Growth of Rap Music

If you are a music enthusiast, then it is very likely that you have come across a genre of music called rap music. Rap music is area that has very clear distinguishing features most notably the rapid and rhythmic chanting of the lyrics perfectly timed to the beat and musical accompaniment that forms the base of the song. Rap music traces its roots to the development of the hiphop subculture which predominantly carries four complementary musical styles namely: rapping, dancing and in particular break dancing, scratching or more popularity known as DJing, and graffiti writing which others dub as vandalism. Another sub-element of this genre is beat-boxing which also features heavily in the repertoire of many rap artists. If you thought this was an easy musical genre to characterize, then you were poorly informed: consider, many research papers and doctoral dissertations have been written on the subject of rap music and its accompanying stylistic elements.

The history of rap music, or hip-hop music, is composed of a series of rapid development phases that have all culminated in the popular rap versions of today. Before rap music took off in the 1990s, it was predominantly referred to as disco rap in the late 1970s. The three rappers who had a hand in coining the term “rap music” were DJ Hollywood, Lovebug Starski, and Keith Cowboy, the last one being officially credited with the term hip-hop. Rap music original began with improvisations and freestyle singing to add an element of unpredictability to the songs in parties and other gatherings. Even in the 1960s to 1970s, the initial elements of rap music where already sown in urban subcultures particularly in New York City where adhoc performances in the streets led to a coalescing of influences in the wake of the Civil Rights era. Like the iPhone 5 release date, it had a slow and steady rise building into an explosion of creativity and style that has made it into what it has become today.

At this very early stage of rap development, it was particularly tied to emcee-ing more than it was associated to any specific song. It predominantly tied songs together as an adlib in between. It was born out of the creative inputs of DJs who had to work with self-imposed musical constraints such as the 4/4 time beat and sampling or sequencing sections of other songs to create a smooth flow of uninterrupted musical stimuli. These were eventually married with electronic equipment such as drums and synthesizers, and ultimate melodies to give it that bite and identity. In a sense, rap music artists were basically like a video game designer who had to figure out each artistic component at every turn until it developed into a more coherent musical genre that became the rap music we know today.

The first recorded version of rap music came alive in the early 1980s when DJs decided to make records out of their freestyle MCing. This necessitated the documentation of song lyrics so they do not change during each and every rendition. The age of the stromanbieter for rap music was gone paving the way for more organized chaos. Still, the freestyle and improvisation element remained a part of many DJ interludes as the song goes through certain sections that did not require too much rap singing.

Likewise, as a consequence of the hip-hop records, the influence of rap began to spread faster than ever before. Artists no longer had to travel far to get their music heard. Now, records from New York City and Philadelphia can be reproduced and transported to cities like Los Angeles, New Orleans, Dallas, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Seattle among others for people to appreciate and enjoy. This was primarily the reason for rap music’s rapid growth. Like Christmas mini lights, cities formed the nodes through which rap music would spread to other parts of the country. From small beginnings to grand achievements, the birth certificate translation to true stardom took a matter of years for rap music to be realized. Since then, its take-off and rise has been meteoric.

In this regard, it is almost impossible to talk about rap music but not discuss the golden age of rap. This was the era from the late 1980s to the mid 1990s when rap grew at an astounding rate fueled by the creative contributions of many artists from all over the continental United States and in many parts of the world. The primary trait of the Golden Age or Rap was that it was an almost unbroken wave of transformative music with every single pushing the boundaries of the genre. From this age and in the succeeding Gansta Rap age came names like Run-D.M.C., Dr. Dre, Ice T, MC Hammer, The Wu-tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, and The Notorious B.I.G. among others. The list of names can virtually fill a Sharepoint Hive without any problems.

According to social studies published in 2005, teenagers and children are more familiar with hip-hop and rap music more than any other musical genre. Up to 65% of all children from ages 8 to 18 hear hip-hop music on a daily basis, making it their routinary keratin hair treatment session, almost to the point that it has become an intrinsic part of their lives. With the diversification of the genre to include the more stylish R&B or rhythm and blues, it is not difficult to explain how rap music has continued to pervade radio station, TV and movie song line-ups. The marriage of rap and jazz which paved the way for R&B is itself a phenomenon that warrants all sorts of social analysis.

And with its very strong following, it is safe to say that rap music is here to stay. Years from now, when you open your TV on a bright Saturday morning, there’s a big chance you would be watching the next stage in the evolution of rap music, and there’s an even better chance you would be dancing or singing to that tune.
