Didn't know it but one of my coworkers is pretty racist but somewhat historically competent which makes it a little more interesting to debate him. I found out when I was telling him that I was majoring in history or journalism but either way I was going to major or minor in one. I started saying I'd take African history and he started going off about the inferiority of Africa compared to European civilization. He said that while the Europeans may have thrown trash out and went to the bathroom in the streets, they had great castles and architecture while there were no great ruins in pre-Portuguese sub-Suharan Africa. He said all their homes were mudhuts and had no doors, even going as far to say that Africans had no concept of doors and two story housing/buildings. He said if there were any great kingdoms or ruins they were on the coastline of Africa where the Portuguese had influence. I held back my anger and just decided that instead of arguing I would simply prove him wrong so he would shut the fuck up. I showed him pictures of Timbucktoo and Great Zimbabwe on the computer. Both great civilizations in land-locked nations of sub-Suharan Africa. He couldn't say anything and just said he would "look them up later".

Well, European written script has an African origin. Second, was Africans or 50-Cent looking individuals who brought farming into Anatolia during the Neolithic which then spread into Europe [CL Brace et al]. Last, African Y-chromosome extraction has a positive correlation with European regions that formed the foundation of European civilization [Semino et al, etc].

The idea of separating European from Africa does not only run in the minds of such racist, but mainstream America as well. High level of influence from blacks despite socio-economic disparity where Blacks are at the negative side really frightens white America.

PS: There are roughly 73 million Euro-Americans with African ancestry. I hope he isn't one of them. Grin

If he claims Romans and Greeks to be white, show him their y-haplogroups, which show a very strong African ancestry.

You are correct. Jared Diamond's text is a Eurocentric Piece, when pseudo-intellectual terms such as "Euroasiatic' civilization is used which clusters Egypt, "Mesopotamia" and British civilization. We need to consider Diamond's audience, i.e. primarily white Europeans who are still fond of white supremacy. In sum, the "it must be white" mentality.

Second, keep in mind that the descendent of the founders of the Northern European powers were the barbarians according to the Greeks and Romans. The Germanic people, the Slavs were the North were no more impressive than the so called "savages" who lived in inner Africa. The irony, while Europeans charge Africans for lack of civilization, Africans (North/ South) developed urban civilization well before the Northern Europeans.

To end, it, let me demonstrate to you how false the disconnect racial disparity, go look for CL Brace et al study which highlights African component in the foundation of European civilization.

Erm..i m not sure where to start, but its clear that your collegue is ONE IGNORANT BASTARD, in other words he is an Educated Fool, which makes it difficult to argue with. Not sure if its worth it, but tell him that Africans have contributed immensely in modern day world. We were playing "Nine Man Morris" (Mrabaraba) way before white ppl came to colonise Africa. There is a Nguni group called "Amandebele" and  their paintings gave birth to Geometry, will try and upload a picture, but if i fail to do that just google (ndebele paintings). BUT YET WE HAD NO CONCETP OF DOORS AND DOUBLE-STOREY BUIDLINGS. your collegue is a very funny guy. The Zulus won most of the fights with white people because of planning (surrounding them) and attacking white people at night because "their guns were ineffective in the dark". and that is just South Africa.

The History and Growth of Rap Music

If you are a music enthusiast, then it is very likely that you have come across a genre of music called rap music. The primary trait of the Golden Age or Rap was that it was an almost unbroken wave of transformative music with every single pushing the boundaries of the genre.
