In contrast, white liberals claim to be egalitarian, but are willing to place issues that results to chronic bleeding (amongst the subordinate class) on the back burner. There's a book called Lies My Teacher Told Me, and it has a whole two chapters dedicated exclusively to the portrayal of Native Americans.  It's ridiculous to think that the Europeans' arrival on this continent helped them in any way.  European diseases killed over 90% of the native population before colonies even started being established, making it much easier for Europe to assume control.  Many natives that were left joined forces with the colonies and kept THEM alive, not the other way around.  It's a shame that the colonists repaid them by giving them smallpox-infected blankets and, at a later date, banishing them to the dustbowls of the Midwest.  Anyone who thinks Europeans helped Native Americans needs to be forcefed some ACTUAL history.

What makes me mad is when self-righteous whites say blacks in America were saved by slavery from the "terrible, dark, pagan continent of Africa". It should be taught, but it makes the parents of the white students too nervous to be confronted with what their ancestors have done in the past.  So they blindfold the poor innocent young ones to the truth.  It's laughable that we call our schools education.  More like "disejumakation".  Almost everything taught in US History in our public schools is utter rubbish, painted to make the white majority look good.  It wasn't until I took AP European History that I was able to study with an amazing teacher who didn't let us look at the world through rose-tinted glasses.  If only every class was as interested in cold, hard fact...

Its ironic, the idea of liberty, individual rights, and a collection of states under a loose federal rule (I got other sources besides Tech BTW) are all inspired or thought to be inspired by the Iroquois and surrounding tribes. You must hang out in bowling alleys in order to perceive something like that. For one, any intelligent white person knows that the inhabitants of Africa were NOT helped by slavery. But I'm sure thats just your knee jerk paranoid part of your brain talking and not the critical thinking part and I'll let it slide. To be honest, the white middle class perspective of history is that slavery and imperialism were "progressive" for Africans. This is speaking to many whites who are otherwise intelligent despite the lack of correct historical or social insight.

Secondly, Africa is not messed up entirely from the points you enumerated. I am so bold to claim that African's do not want to emulate European society and if they do it is for fault of their own.

First off, I'm tired of this rhetoric from liberals like ""neocolonies" or "poor people" are exploited by the wealthy but they bare a fault to blame to". Whenever anybody says that "third world" was forcefully underdeveloped the right always says that you are playing a "blame game" so liberals want to soften up the hard truth so as not to put only one at fault. So basically you put European capitalist development up on the pedestal as a model for the lowly "third world" to follow. Unless Africans were to a) enslave large portions of Western populations b) take colonial control over resource-wealthy nations and c) massacre their indigenous tribes to further national resource exploration, I'm guessing they couldn't follow this "model". If you want to talk about emulating European society with other methods by which capitalist society developed you can speak of protectionism that Africa has not been following due to enforced structural adjustment by the World Bank/IMF. Obviously colonial and neocolonial centers of power enforce a seperate "development plan" for their "third world proxies" to keep them exploited and highly impoverished. An interesting event happened recently where most African nations denounced free trade to follow their own path of development. Unfortunately with their overbearing debt it does not look realistic at the moment unless they were to default and begin national development like Argentina.

Ok but if you've never run into any white "intelligent" members of the middle class who have believed any alternative then it would be safe to say that its a general class bias even if not held by every individual member. Not holding slavery to have been a progressive insitution on Africans is quite rare and almost proves to be the exception (myself as an example). Just as its white consensus that affirmative action is "reversely racist", ignoring their white priviledge and continued oppression of African-Americans and Latinos. Not to say that every white holds this belief but the exception (like myself again) proves the rule.

The belief in the "great white American way" is the main assumption behind this belief in slavery as having "lifted the darkies out of mere survival in the jungles and into civilization". No doubt that this general view manifests itself in other ways like the belief in U.S. military force as democratizing and liberating "third world" nations. This is the main ideal that needs to be countered when speaking of the influence of white supremacy and imperialism on global conditions.
