This logic can be applied to any doctrine but since capitalism and racism are the two most discussed and recognized doctrines on this board, I will only use those two as examples. There are some small differences between the two but the big picture is the same.

When thinking about this, two questions popped in my head.

Is it possible for someone to be an anti-capitalist and capitalist or anti-racist and racist at the same time?
Is it possible for someone to be an anti-capitalist in a capitalist society or person to be anti-racist in a racist society?

As I said, both of these ideologies, the exchange of capital for profit and that whites are supreme over people of color, are doctrines that have been implanted in both American, Western, and mostly global society. First what does it mean to be a capitalist?

It would only make sense that since we live in a capitalistic society, one who embraces that system would be a capitalist. In mainstream culture, we usually only call one who openly embraces capitalism a capitalism but technically, anyone who embraces it no matter how slight should be considered a capitalist.

That obviously brings up problems since most of us here openly renounce capitalism and support other ideologies that are not in place right now. If I embrace capitalism by sharing the exchange of good or even buying stock, but would prefer socialism, what would I be considered? I embrace capitalism because it is almost impossible not too but I support socialism even though it is impossible for me to embrace it since it is not currently implimented in my society.

Racism works a little differently since it is more static than capitalism.

Western racism is white supremacy, so technically anyone, of any color, who embraces white supremacy is a white supremacist or racist. In mainstream culture, we usually only call one who openly embraces our racist system as a racist but technically, anyone who embraces it no matter how slight should be considered a racist.

This also brings up problems. Once again, I have openly denounced white supremacy but have benefited and have slightly embraced it at times since, like capitalism, it is almost inevitable and mostly subconscious.

The problem comes because we have different definitions. Is a capitalism one who supports or embraces capitalism? If it is supports, then one can be a anti-capitalist in a capitalist society even though they are embracing socialism. If it is embraces, then anyone who embraces the system they are living in (basically everyone) no matter what they support, which means it is impossible for any of us to be an anti-capitalist and impossible for any white to be anti-racist.

That is my basic question but it does get more complicated if look into closet capitalist and closet racists. Liberals tend to denounce racism but they subconsciously support it and do not just embrace it because they have no other option.

To support is to maintain or hold in position the current setup. Therefore, Every economic participant in capitalism is a supporter of capitalism, because they are keeping it sustained - ideologically.

One can successfully transfer the same logic to racism. Anyone taking advantage of their position in a racist society is maintaining racism. Therefore, they are supporting it.
By being born as the 'winning colour', you are already taking advantage. For starters, there is more chance of you actually being born.
So immediately, you are supporting racism, this is where statistical logic + our definition of support, and racism takes us.

With these thoughts in mind, can we be against something we support? Yes.
If you throw something at me, and I instinctively catch it, it does not follow that I can not be against your throwing it.
Therefore, We can be anti-capitalist, as well as anti-racist, in both racism and capitalism.
What this implies however, is that to be against, I must not agree with what you have thrown at me. This disagreement provides me with an incentive to throw it back.
Also, to disagree with something, I must reason what it is. There must be some representation of it, that I disagree with.

Now, to embrace capitalism, one must take that up willingly - however, nothing conscious has to be said about it. In other words, you do not need to know what capitalism is to embrace it, or express affection for it.
Affection can't be measured in quantitative data, so, we can not successfully measure how many of the population embraces capitalism.
What we can be sure of however, is that by embracing something, you are not opposed to it.
Contrasted this conclusion, with the conclusion of supporting capitalism, what it means to be an anti-capitalist, is that you are not affected with capitalism. You are prepared, and have incentive to let go. But also, you have been presented with a representation of what it is. It is a sensible decision, subject to reason and not instinct.

The same for racism.

Now, I said that affection can't be measured, but we can talk about incentive. Those at the winning side of both racism and capitalism are provided with less incentive to let it go, or reasonably throw the box back. Vice versa for the losing end.

We must therefore be skeptical about anti-racists and anti-capitalists from the winning side, as they may not have as much incentive as the losing side.

For me personally, anti-racism means confronting the racist attitudes in my own heart and mind.  Only then can I accurately identify it in society, and try to do something about it.

I think you need to choose your words more judiciously. If you "embrace" capitalism you can never be anti-capitalist nor under that definition would you remotely desire to. This creates ambiguity because I am not sure what I am supposed to be referencing in order to juxtapose against your "basic" question. The ambiguity is of a semantical nature- no definitions are supplied as to what constitutes a capitalist or someone who "embraces?" capitalism and this is confounded by your simultaneously answering and questioning your opening. Is a capitalist someone living under a capitalist regime? Is it a member of corporate ownership? Some gray area in between? You may not see an immediate problem in this but it is there from this word choice and it seems you mainly supplied the rhetorical answer as to why; is it even possible to truly disavow capitalism? Without further information how the hell can I answer that without a resounding no.

If this is the case then every person including die-hard communists support capitalism.

In our current economic setup, access to Capitalism is required for sustainability. Communism just doesn't arrive out of nowhere. It's not going to be introduced by those with no level of fitness (i.e. Iraq vs. Hussein under UN sanction regime), but rather the working and "middle" class.

There is nothing wrong with using Capitalism in order to develop one's fitness. We require Capitalism to survive, but in this socio-economic setup, those of colour primarily barred from entering Capitalism. In other words, sustainability should be our prime aim. Tacking -ism is only possible if that condition is met.

I think it is possible to be both anti capitalist/racist and operate inside those systems. You have to weigh the affect of ones efforts against the affect of ones participation. This is to say that if you are doing a great deal to undermine either institution it is possible that your efforts would be greater and therefore you would be anti-insert institution. Here is an analogy of what I mean, I know I am risking over simplifying but oh well.

Lets say you are born in an overflowing pool of shit and piss. You grow up in this shit and piss pool and it is all you know. Then one day you peer over the edge and see a clean world free of excrement and you decide you are going to clean up the pool. So in spite of the continued influx of deification you start to bail the pool out and pump in fresh water. You devote your life to cleaning up the pool and not running away from the problems because you know and love others in the pool. Eventually others will see your efforts, some will buck you and others will join in causing a domino affect of people continuing to take part in the clean up. Just because you live in this shit pool does not mean you support it.

Bob,

I am curious if you think capitalism is a requirement to the extent that without it we would not survive?

Yes, while Capitalism is ridiculously costly, it is the only route one can survive. The prerequisites of a socialist revolution is decent level of sustainability. I am not talking about becoming a venture Capitalist, but rather a life where one does not need to experience what the majority do at the negative end of the disparity.

Second, I also highly doubt white people are willing or even capable of surrendering their power in order to promote socialism. And let's be real here, power respects power. For us to remove Capitalism, power needs to be decentralized - in other words, no longer be monopolized by whites - and then together can we destroy Capitalism.

To expect aliens, God, or white people to somehow enter the scene and destroy Capitalism is foolish at best. Remember, slavery existed well before the days of Capitalism, and African slaves were brought to the Americas when European economies were mercantile. Capitalism, while oppressive, can always be replaced with a more devastating killing machine.

To speak in such absolutes is wrong, some of us are better than you describe and are fighting for what you are stating is untrue. I dont think any race is immune to the corruption of power although I take your point that the current world power is white but its a disservice to those of us who are working toward destroying the capitalist model.

Just because you live in this shit pool does not mean you support it.

There is a flaw with this analogy. Capitalism requests economic participation to be capitalism, where as a pool of shit requests nothing to be a pool of shit - it's static, where as capitalism is highly interactive and dynamic.
I disagree with your conclusion too. Supporting something is not rooting for it, it is simply keeping it sustained and healthy. Whether you are being exploited, unemployed (making labor pool cheaper), exploiting, adopting capitalist ideology (almost impossible to avoid) you are keeping capitalism itself sustained, and are thus supporting it. But it does follow that you can be anti-what-you-support.

Don't take in my cost as one that is isolated. I have said earlier that individual whites may differ, and that is why I look at the behaviour of the white race instead. Let's be real here, the white raced promotes Capitalism. Nothing more...nothing less.

Keep in mind that my post is not specifically directed to you, or white-skinned individuals who oppose the system. Honestly, I don't have a right to make such a suggestion. Nor do I know, and shouldn't even enter such an useless endeavor by reviewing individuals with white skin. I am not Jesus Christ, nor is the individual relevant in public policy.

However, I do expect white people to speak for themselves versus their oppressive race. The current setup is promoted by the white race - fact- and therefore must never be kept masked. To suggest that "some of us are better than you describe" while the current setup remains is at best, hypocritical. The white race is racist, and yes, it comes with reason.

So allow me to point it out again: the white race is oppressive. It promotes classism. Some may ask, what about China, Iran, or Saudi Arabia? I reply, the China of today is the result of the Opium wars. Iran and Saudi Arabia were also heavily shaped by direct Western interventionism. The operations that involved eliminate Arab or Iranian secular movements are Western in origin. Even today, the West manufactured and reinforced these oppressive regimes.

The source of Classicism including heterosexism, racism, sexism: white monopoly over economic and political power. Nations like Iran and Saudi Arabia if led by seculars would likely not be so oppressive. The billions oppressed today would be enjoying living standards resembling white communities worldwide.

Mobile-friendly version Immortal Technique Biography

Born Felipe Andres Coronel on the 19th of February 1978, hip-hop artist Immortal Technique is a controversial figure in the U.S. His songs speak of the need for social justice and equality among all races, with special emphasis on the people of color or Latin Americans, but they also cover topics such as the fight against unfair imprisonments or militarism and many others.

His biography is hence quite intriguing, to say the least, and, just like the best anti aging cream is probably going to be lingering over the shelves of all cosmetic stores for many years to come, Immortal Technique’s songs are going to remain hot, fresh and sought after for a really long time. Due to the fact they speak about topics which are to be considered taboos, his lyrics continue to be listened to with the exterior shutters down in most homes.

Immortal technique was born in Peru, in El Hospital Militar de Lima; several years later, his family moved to America in order to escape the harsh living conditions in Peru. Even though they could not afford to buy any terrain a vendre there, they managed to move to Harlem in the ‘80s. Immortal Technique went to Hunter High School, but just like a hip replacement recall is never of good omen, his grades and behavior weren’t any good during high school either. He was the school bully, he harassed other students and he was not afraid to get involved in scandals with drug dealers from around the area. And while his interactions with these drug dealers were not as numerous as used cars in Phoenix are, they still managed to leave an ugly mark on his biography.

Plus, his graffiti did not actually resemble any Dreamweaver templates, but he was famous for his controversial acts of vandalism. His violence against others almost got him expelled in 1996, but he somehow managed to finish high school and even attend college at Pennsylvania State University. This time, his college experience only lasted for two years; he was then charged and convicted and he was eventually imprisoned in Pennsylvania.

In prison, just like a SEO San Antonio company would focus on booting a web site’s ranking, Immortal Technique also focused on boosting his own social ranking. He began studying the policy of religious history, and, finding the inspiration he needed, he began putting his thoughts in lyrics. In 1999 he was paroled and, even though he was first considered some sort of Agen Bola, as no one had heard of him at first, he began to attend freestyle battles he started winning.

From there on, his career started to bloom, as he gave birth to albums such as “Revolutionary Vol 1” in 2002, “Revolutionary Vol 2” in 2004 and “Revolutionary Vol 3” in 2008. He also became a political activist and started to sing about political injustice (check out his opinion on the imprisonment of Mumia Abu-Jamal or the songs on George W. Bush). Despite of the fact that his albums might not have gotten the type of positive reviews African mango reviews are usually comprised of, this has not stopped him from getting involved in future projects, including an important film collaboration. He might not approve the work of the CNA Financial Corporation, but we all need to eat, right?

Recently I've been in the market for used cars. Which I'm sure many of you know how long that process can take. Having to go from dealer to dealer and look at one car after another. What a painstaking process! Its a good thing I don't have to take a personality test after the whole process. I'm sure I'd have some pretty skewed results. After finally settling down and buying a new Audi A4, I found out I had a bigger problem on my hands. Where am I gonna park the car during winter? I decided I had to contact a local contractor and get remodeling estimates to redo our garage which had been having problems with leaks all last winter. After getting some rather expensive estimates back from contractors our family finally decided to move to a different area of New York, we took a look at jamestown ny homes which was recommended by a close friend of mine. Have you ever just had that feeling after looking at a town? You just knew it was the one. Well thankfully we had a lot of wonderful homes to look at that were priced perfectly. We eventually decided to go with a home with a nice garage for the new car, a gym witih a full pull up bar, and best of all my wife could stop taking her proactol and finally begin to use our at home gym!

The History and Growth of Rap Music

If you are a music enthusiast, then it is very likely that you have come across a genre of music called rap music. Rap music is area that has very clear distinguishing features most notably the rapid and rhythmic chanting of the lyrics perfectly timed to the beat and musical accompaniment that forms the base of the song. Rap music traces its roots to the development of the hiphop subculture which predominantly carries four complementary musical styles namely: rapping, dancing and in particular break dancing, scratching or more popularity known as DJing, and graffiti writing which others dub as vandalism. Another sub-element of this genre is beat-boxing which also features heavily in the repertoire of many rap artists. If you thought this was an easy musical genre to characterize, then you were poorly informed: consider, many research papers and doctoral dissertations have been written on the subject of rap music and its accompanying stylistic elements.

The history of rap music, or hip-hop music, is composed of a series of rapid development phases that have all culminated in the popular rap versions of today. Before rap music took off in the 1990s, it was predominantly referred to as disco rap in the late 1970s. The three rappers who had a hand in coining the term “rap music” were DJ Hollywood, Lovebug Starski, and Keith Cowboy, the last one being officially credited with the term hip-hop. Rap music original began with improvisations and freestyle singing to add an element of unpredictability to the songs in parties and other gatherings. Even in the 1960s to 1970s, the initial elements of rap music where already sown in urban subcultures particularly in New York City where adhoc performances in the streets led to a coalescing of influences in the wake of the Civil Rights era. Like the iPhone 5 release date, it had a slow and steady rise building into an explosion of creativity and style that has made it into what it has become today.

At this very early stage of rap development, it was particularly tied to emcee-ing more than it was associated to any specific song. It predominantly tied songs together as an adlib in between. It was born out of the creative inputs of DJs who had to work with self-imposed musical constraints such as the 4/4 time beat and sampling or sequencing sections of other songs to create a smooth flow of uninterrupted musical stimuli. These were eventually married with electronic equipment such as drums and synthesizers, and ultimate melodies to give it that bite and identity. In a sense, rap music artists were basically like a video game designer who had to figure out each artistic component at every turn until it developed into a more coherent musical genre that became the rap music we know today.

The first recorded version of rap music came alive in the early 1980s when DJs decided to make records out of their freestyle MCing. This necessitated the documentation of song lyrics so they do not change during each and every rendition. The age of the stromanbieter for rap music was gone paving the way for more organized chaos. Still, the freestyle and improvisation element remained a part of many DJ interludes as the song goes through certain sections that did not require too much rap singing.

Likewise, as a consequence of the hip-hop records, the influence of rap began to spread faster than ever before. Artists no longer had to travel far to get their music heard. Now, records from New York City and Philadelphia can be reproduced and transported to cities like Los Angeles, New Orleans, Dallas, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Seattle among others for people to appreciate and enjoy. This was primarily the reason for rap music’s rapid growth. Like Christmas mini lights, cities formed the nodes through which rap music would spread to other parts of the country. From small beginnings to grand achievements, the birth certificate translation to true stardom took a matter of years for rap music to be realized. Since then, its take-off and rise has been meteoric.

In this regard, it is almost impossible to talk about rap music but not discuss the golden age of rap. This was the era from the late 1980s to the mid 1990s when rap grew at an astounding rate fueled by the creative contributions of many artists from all over the continental United States and in many parts of the world. The primary trait of the Golden Age or Rap was that it was an almost unbroken wave of transformative music with every single pushing the boundaries of the genre. From this age and in the succeeding Gansta Rap age came names like Run-D.M.C., Dr. Dre, Ice T, MC Hammer, The Wu-tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, and The Notorious B.I.G. among others. The list of names can virtually fill a Sharepoint Hive without any problems.

According to social studies published in 2005, teenagers and children are more familiar with hip-hop and rap music more than any other musical genre. Up to 65% of all children from ages 8 to 18 hear hip-hop music on a daily basis, making it their routinary keratin hair treatment session, almost to the point that it has become an intrinsic part of their lives. With the diversification of the genre to include the more stylish R&B or rhythm and blues, it is not difficult to explain how rap music has continued to pervade radio station, TV and movie song line-ups. The marriage of rap and jazz which paved the way for R&B is itself a phenomenon that warrants all sorts of social analysis.

And with its very strong following, it is safe to say that rap music is here to stay. Years from now, when you open your TV on a bright Saturday morning, there’s a big chance you would be watching the next stage in the evolution of rap music, and there’s an even better chance you would be dancing or singing to that tune.

Immortal Technique Rapper Biography

Immortal technique is the stage name for which rapper Felipe Andres Coronel is popularly known. His lyrics characterized by its unique mixture of socialist commentary of social class hierarchy, religion, wealth, poverty to contemporary issues touching on governmental and institutional racism. Perhaps you may have come across information about this popular icon as you undertake research for that mba online, or for whatever course you are undertaking, be it bachelors in criminal justice, performing arts degree, governance systems, online nurse practitioner programs, history, or any other course for which you have to do online research.

The rapper was born on the 19th day of February 1978 in Lima, Peru. During the internal conflicts that took place in their country at the time, his parents migrated to Harlem, New York. Probably, in the process of migration to the country, they may have used boats at least once in the journey. Like many American teenagers, the rapper was engaged in various acts against the law that led to his arrest several times, which in one his public interviews admitted that they were selfish and at best childish acts.
