Good, point.  Racism and white supremacy is like air in this society.  It's everywhere.  And escaping its influence involves creating a vast independent breathing system.  Most folks don't see it as big enough a problem to merit that degree of separation.

And it continutes.

You must seperate "race" from "racism": racism can exist without races. This may sound contradictory, but it is a matter of fact. There is no such thing as different human "races", there are only slight differences in appearence which can change in a matter of generations. To divide our species into races there must be greater differences in genetics. A European can have more genes in common with an African than with an other European - this cannot be "racial".
Despite scientifical evidence, racism exist as a doctrine. Science unfortunately has never been able to eliminate dogmatic thinking, for there will always be men which simply point out every evidence which could falsificate their way of thinking. Racism goes back to Aristotle, who considered Greeks to be the "perfect men", everything south of Greece was considered to be a "coward people", everything north "barbarian and primitive". In Renaissance, the Catholic Church allowed the enslavement of Africans, for they weren't even considered human: Indígenas from South America were considered inferior to Europeans, but still to be human. To "prove" the inferiority of Africans, many racist theories claimed that Africans, as the only people on the world, never build up a civilization - ignoring the fact that there were even African universities from where Europeans took even educated professors and enslaved them in the United States of America. The image of the African "monkey" climbing a tree therefore is just wrong, it is an image made to try to justify oppression and slavery.
USAmericans tend to be talking about "race" as if it was normal and, even though their intentions may be good sometimes (even open-minded people still consider native Americans, Europeans, Asians, Africans etc. to be different "races"), it is just wrong: they are following an ideological concept which is but the result of hundreds of years of racist propaganda!

I agree, Dionysus.  Good point about Aristotle, as well.

There is no such thing as races. There are ethncities, but not races. Unfortunately, racism is a very real thing though.

I think that there is nothing wrong in acknowledging a person of his or her race, because in admitting that the person is of a different race is respecting his or her cultural identity. I'll say you're black or latino or white, because if that's who you are, you should be proud. (unless you're embarrassed by the sins commited by your ancestors.)

One thing i find funny about some white people is that they'll never say, simple and plain, that the person is asian or black or whatever. One time this white friend tells me someone's waiting for me outside. I say, oh, hey, is he black? Well, the friend trails on to say, "well, he's tall, and tanned...wears glasses..." i ask him again, well, so, is he black? He trails on again until he finally admits, "Yea he's black." i tell him why didn't you just say it like that in the first place?

My theory is that he was just too touchy on the subject, and is true, many white people are touchy about just saying what the color of the person is, because, perhaps, it'll sound kind of offensive when it comes out of the mouth of a white man, rather than the mouth of a black man. And this is a problem also. Everybody is capable of being racist, regardless of color. I find it funny, because when i'm on the bus sometimes some black kids will taunt me of my asian characteristics, saying 'chinky' or whatever. So when i stoop down to his level, to call him a racially derogative term, like, "Shut up nigga," i'm going to get the brand as a racist, (i'm not saying is right to call a black person a nigga, but just in terms of verbal abuse) when the other kid started the racial name callings. Shouldn't BOTH people be branded as racists?

Yes.  You often hear things like, "You can't be racist if you're not the race in power."  This is false.  People often call racism towards whites "reverse racism," which is retarded.  Racism is racism no matter who it is aimed at, or who it comes from.  Making that distinction serves to say that some racism is better/worse than another kind, instead of the clear fact that it's ridiculous regardless of who it's between.

Until I was about 12 or so I didn't see a single difference between skin colours...

Back then racism wasn't an issue...no-one cared where you came from or what nationality you are...nowadays it's turned into a load of bullshit...you see fights purely because of race...it's just fucked up...

The human mind is too quick to categorize, it's inevitable to notice differences in skin colour and culture.

V.True. Even though I would like to see everyone categorized as just human, and not one to take on complexes or labels, our brain automaticlly identifys certain shit and puts it into groups (or race). It is almost inevitable, now, that the distingushinment of race is made.

But, I belive the hatred feelings towards those `other` identitys because of HOW they differ from you, feeling of superioty or the mistreatment BECAUSE they are different from your own percived identity, or identity group is what determines racism.

Not just walking past someone in the street and thinking "oh... S/hes different".

Just wanted to know who in here doesn't "see race"?  Or would argue that "we're all just human beings"?

no need to argue.  its scientifically proven through dna and other methods that we all are just extended cousins.  there is one race, the human race.  prejudging people by their looks or insisting on behaving in a certain way so as to conform to a standard is a learned behavior.  anything that is learned can be unlearned.

you need to unlearn that, b.  you probably all shook from watching the news and the bullshit about terrorism.  if you live in the US, you have a bigger chance of getting in a car accident or getting cancer than being personally affected by terrorism.

Hehe this is my first post... I'm gonna have to say na shit race exist. I here all these claims that "scientifically" race does not exist but i believe it does. Skin color is there for a reason it came through evolution, it was proper for the environment. The reason Asians have squinty eyes is because of sand storms or some shit(i heard it on the discovery channel i forget what it was exactly).  Now this is probably gonna piss people off: Black people tend to be stronger and better at sports in America because of selective breeding that was done in the slave trade. Now I'm sure i will probably get bitched at for this post by some one. I don't believe any of these differences determine our rights and i have no hatred towards other races i don't see a point in it its a waste of time. I think its as simple as this, there are differences but, so what who cares, non of them are great enough to treat any group like dogs or work horses, and it is wrong to do so.

son.  there are no 'races'.  get past the skin color, its only cosmetic. nothing else.  its the same as thinking someone's a different race because of their eye color, how tall they are or color of their hair.  i know its hard to accept, but its the truth.

Its official. 'Race' dont exist, well at least not in a biological sense. Its a social construction which now has to be maintained so that members of certain 'ethnic' and 'race' minorities are`nt denied their cultural respect and need.

as you said there are differences that are cosmetic as i said and there are reasons those differences are there for a reason(environmental reasons). So fine ill say there are regional differences through evolution that exist. I mean really what the fuck is "race" what is the definition? What is the word for regional variations and differences?
According to the dictionary: "a group of persons related by common descent or heredity." ...ya i think we can all agree that exist.

Where we should not get caught up on is the different variations of the same race.   I strongly believe that your rough estimation is actually correct.   You see, once the premise that the birthplace of humanity is somewhere in the motherland of africa is accepted and that these 'races' which are only africans detached from their most natural environment, have only adapted to their new environment.  They are simply africans with diffrent features due to adaptation to their enivronment.  we are all branches of the same tree.    Some branches of the same tree had harder and colder times than others, some had more sand, and some had it ideal.     Its all about adaptation which subsequently leads conditioning, etc etc...

And yes white skin is a end result of not obtaining enough sun and the body loses it melanin.   There is a great book on this topic...one of the best I have ever read.  Its titled,  The African Origin of Biological Psychiatry by Bernard King.      That book will change your world, literally.

Mobile-friendly version Immortal Technique Biography

Born Felipe Andres Coronel on the 19th of February 1978, hip-hop artist Immortal Technique is a controversial figure in the U.S. His songs speak of the need for social justice and equality among all races, with special emphasis on the people of color or Latin Americans, but they also cover topics such as the fight against unfair imprisonments or militarism and many others.

His biography is hence quite intriguing, to say the least, and, just like the best anti aging cream is probably going to be lingering over the shelves of all cosmetic stores for many years to come, Immortal Technique’s songs are going to remain hot, fresh and sought after for a really long time. Due to the fact they speak about topics which are to be considered taboos, his lyrics continue to be listened to with the exterior shutters down in most homes.

Immortal technique was born in Peru, in El Hospital Militar de Lima; several years later, his family moved to America in order to escape the harsh living conditions in Peru. Even though they could not afford to buy any terrain a vendre there, they managed to move to Harlem in the ‘80s. Immortal Technique went to Hunter High School, but just like a hip replacement recall is never of good omen, his grades and behavior weren’t any good during high school either. He was the school bully, he harassed other students and he was not afraid to get involved in scandals with drug dealers from around the area. And while his interactions with these drug dealers were not as numerous as used cars in Phoenix are, they still managed to leave an ugly mark on his biography.

Plus, his graffiti did not actually resemble any Dreamweaver templates, but he was famous for his controversial acts of vandalism. His violence against others almost got him expelled in 1996, but he somehow managed to finish high school and even attend college at Pennsylvania State University. This time, his college experience only lasted for two years; he was then charged and convicted and he was eventually imprisoned in Pennsylvania.

In prison, just like a SEO San Antonio company would focus on booting a web site’s ranking, Immortal Technique also focused on boosting his own social ranking. He began studying the policy of religious history, and, finding the inspiration he needed, he began putting his thoughts in lyrics. In 1999 he was paroled and, even though he was first considered some sort of Agen Bola, as no one had heard of him at first, he began to attend freestyle battles he started winning.

From there on, his career started to bloom, as he gave birth to albums such as “Revolutionary Vol 1” in 2002, “Revolutionary Vol 2” in 2004 and “Revolutionary Vol 3” in 2008. He also became a political activist and started to sing about political injustice (check out his opinion on the imprisonment of Mumia Abu-Jamal or the songs on George W. Bush). Despite of the fact that his albums might not have gotten the type of positive reviews African mango reviews are usually comprised of, this has not stopped him from getting involved in future projects, including an important film collaboration. He might not approve the work of the CNA Financial Corporation, but we all need to eat, right?

Recently I've been in the market for used cars. Which I'm sure many of you know how long that process can take. Having to go from dealer to dealer and look at one car after another. What a painstaking process! Its a good thing I don't have to take a personality test after the whole process. I'm sure I'd have some pretty skewed results. After finally settling down and buying a new Audi A4, I found out I had a bigger problem on my hands. Where am I gonna park the car during winter? I decided I had to contact a local contractor and get remodeling estimates to redo our garage which had been having problems with leaks all last winter. After getting some rather expensive estimates back from contractors our family finally decided to move to a different area of New York, we took a look at jamestown ny homes which was recommended by a close friend of mine. Have you ever just had that feeling after looking at a town? You just knew it was the one. Well thankfully we had a lot of wonderful homes to look at that were priced perfectly. We eventually decided to go with a home with a nice garage for the new car, a gym witih a full pull up bar, and best of all my wife could stop taking her proactol and finally begin to use our at home gym!

The History and Growth of Rap Music

If you are a music enthusiast, then it is very likely that you have come across a genre of music called rap music. Rap music is area that has very clear distinguishing features most notably the rapid and rhythmic chanting of the lyrics perfectly timed to the beat and musical accompaniment that forms the base of the song. Rap music traces its roots to the development of the hiphop subculture which predominantly carries four complementary musical styles namely: rapping, dancing and in particular break dancing, scratching or more popularity known as DJing, and graffiti writing which others dub as vandalism. Another sub-element of this genre is beat-boxing which also features heavily in the repertoire of many rap artists. If you thought this was an easy musical genre to characterize, then you were poorly informed: consider, many research papers and doctoral dissertations have been written on the subject of rap music and its accompanying stylistic elements.

The history of rap music, or hip-hop music, is composed of a series of rapid development phases that have all culminated in the popular rap versions of today. Before rap music took off in the 1990s, it was predominantly referred to as disco rap in the late 1970s. The three rappers who had a hand in coining the term “rap music” were DJ Hollywood, Lovebug Starski, and Keith Cowboy, the last one being officially credited with the term hip-hop. Rap music original began with improvisations and freestyle singing to add an element of unpredictability to the songs in parties and other gatherings. Even in the 1960s to 1970s, the initial elements of rap music where already sown in urban subcultures particularly in New York City where adhoc performances in the streets led to a coalescing of influences in the wake of the Civil Rights era. Like the iPhone 5 release date, it had a slow and steady rise building into an explosion of creativity and style that has made it into what it has become today.

At this very early stage of rap development, it was particularly tied to emcee-ing more than it was associated to any specific song. It predominantly tied songs together as an adlib in between. It was born out of the creative inputs of DJs who had to work with self-imposed musical constraints such as the 4/4 time beat and sampling or sequencing sections of other songs to create a smooth flow of uninterrupted musical stimuli. These were eventually married with electronic equipment such as drums and synthesizers, and ultimate melodies to give it that bite and identity. In a sense, rap music artists were basically like a video game designer who had to figure out each artistic component at every turn until it developed into a more coherent musical genre that became the rap music we know today.

The first recorded version of rap music came alive in the early 1980s when DJs decided to make records out of their freestyle MCing. This necessitated the documentation of song lyrics so they do not change during each and every rendition. The age of the stromanbieter for rap music was gone paving the way for more organized chaos. Still, the freestyle and improvisation element remained a part of many DJ interludes as the song goes through certain sections that did not require too much rap singing.

Likewise, as a consequence of the hip-hop records, the influence of rap began to spread faster than ever before. Artists no longer had to travel far to get their music heard. Now, records from New York City and Philadelphia can be reproduced and transported to cities like Los Angeles, New Orleans, Dallas, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Seattle among others for people to appreciate and enjoy. This was primarily the reason for rap music’s rapid growth. Like Christmas mini lights, cities formed the nodes through which rap music would spread to other parts of the country. From small beginnings to grand achievements, the birth certificate translation to true stardom took a matter of years for rap music to be realized. Since then, its take-off and rise has been meteoric.

In this regard, it is almost impossible to talk about rap music but not discuss the golden age of rap. This was the era from the late 1980s to the mid 1990s when rap grew at an astounding rate fueled by the creative contributions of many artists from all over the continental United States and in many parts of the world. The primary trait of the Golden Age or Rap was that it was an almost unbroken wave of transformative music with every single pushing the boundaries of the genre. From this age and in the succeeding Gansta Rap age came names like Run-D.M.C., Dr. Dre, Ice T, MC Hammer, The Wu-tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, and The Notorious B.I.G. among others. The list of names can virtually fill a Sharepoint Hive without any problems.

According to social studies published in 2005, teenagers and children are more familiar with hip-hop and rap music more than any other musical genre. Up to 65% of all children from ages 8 to 18 hear hip-hop music on a daily basis, making it their routinary keratin hair treatment session, almost to the point that it has become an intrinsic part of their lives. With the diversification of the genre to include the more stylish R&B or rhythm and blues, it is not difficult to explain how rap music has continued to pervade radio station, TV and movie song line-ups.
